Law enforcement increasing patrols for holidays

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Law enforcement agencies across St. Joseph County were at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka Wednesday morning announcing extra patrols over the holidays.

Police from South Bend, Elkhart, and Mishawaka will be adding patrols to increase traffic safety and get impaired drivers off the road.

Police also said it is better to turn right out of a busy parking lot even if you need to turn left to avoid getting hit.

"Cutting across traffic that's backed up impairs your vision and more than likely will end up in a car crash," said Lieutenant Tim Williams.

As always, but especially during the holidays, police say do not get behind the wheel if you have had too much to drink.
