League of Women Voters holds voting registration event

The League of Women Voters of the South Bend area celebrated National Voter Registration Day by holding a voter registration event at Clay High School on Tuesday.

Featured speakers included Mayor Pete Buttigieg, the St. Joseph County Commissioner, and South Bend City Clerk, Kareemah Fowler.

National Voter Registration Day teaches students about the importance of voting and making sure their views and opinions are heard.

“Any election is important, the Presidential Election is very important and there's so much in the news all the time. It's a great time for young folks to get involved,” says Geri Pawelski, president of South Bend League of Women Voters.

If approved, students will be allowed to vote on November 8th in the upcoming general election.

Since 2011, the League of Women Voters had registered over 4,000 students to vote.
