Lerner Theatre announces free Kool and the Gang, The Commodores concert
ELKHART, Ind. -- At a press conference Tuesday, The Lerner Theatre, Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson, and Jon Hunsberger, Executive Director of the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced the Celebration Under The Stars, a free concert featuring Kool and the Gang with special guest, The Commodores, on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
Roberson said "So, I'm pretty excited about that, but I'm also excited that we are able to host it, because I believe that it fits so much in who we are. We are the leading band instrument manufacturer in the country. We have a 37-year Jazz Fest that actually fits with that, and this particular event is just an extension of that, as we honor the 100th year of our fabulous learner theater. So, all of these kinds of connection points are happening at the same time and it's a blessing to be around it, but it's also a gift to be able to say to everyone that they can come and enjoy."
The concert will take place at Elkhart’s Central Green and is considered an extension of The Lerner’s 100th anniversary celebration.
"Well, we really wanted to showcase downtown Elkhart as a premier entertainment destination, and so just putting on our imagination, our dream caps, what could that be? You know, we thought it had to be a kind of a big name, a draw for our residents that would be recognizable. And then just logistically, trying to work with promoters to identify acts that would align. And really the stars did align, to be able to bring Kool & the Gang and the Commodores here for this September 6 event," said Jon Hunsberger, Executive Director of the Elkhart County CVB.
City officials say the event will showcase Elkhart’s spirit, commitment to placemaking, and a tradition of exceeding expectations.
Sponsorships and VIP Packages for the concert are available. If interested, you may contact Alex Otto at [email protected] or call 574-350-4209. You can also find more information online.
