Life Cycle bike donation drive

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.-- Get your old bicycle in the hands of someone in need by donating it to the Life Cycle Program at the program’s first bike donation drive Friday, Aug.16, at the Elkhart Environmental Center.

The Life Cycle program connects qualified community members in need of transportation to a free bike that has been refurbished and is ready for the road.

Since the start of the program in September of 2023, Saving Grace and Guidance Ministries has helped get dozens of bikes in the hands of those in need.

Drop-off Location: Bikes can be dropped off Friday, Aug. 16 at the Elkhart Environmental Center, 1717 E. Lusher Ave, Elkhart from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

What they are looking for: Adult bicycles in good working order from national cycling brands such as Giant, Specialized, Trek, and Surly. Don’t worry if the bike needs a new tube or tire, they can address minor issues. To respect the dignity of those receiving bicycles, they reserve the right to reject donations that will not serve the needs of Life Cycle clients.

“Transportation can be a significant barrier for many adults, especially those in under-served communities,” Lindsey Caterina, a Community Wellness Coordinator for Purdue Extension Elkhart County, said. “By donating a bike, you are helping a neighbor get to work, attend a doctor’s appointment, or pick up groceries—essential activities that many of us take for granted.”
