Milder but wetter conditions this weekend
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Lincolnway West was shut down between Baker and Wells for several hours Tuesday afternoon due to a SWAT situation.
South Bend Police said two people were being watched by members of the strategic focus unit. One of the subjects tried to drive away and the other ran into a house at the corner of Lincolnway and Taylor.
The driver who fled was taken into custody.
SWAT members surrounded the home around 3:30 p.m. to apprehend the other person.
At one point, a man and a woman came out of the house and were taken away in handcuffs.
Around 5:20 p.m., another man was taken away in handcuffs. A witness at the scene said he was the subject of the standoff.
South Bend Police said a total of 5 people were taken into custody.
There were no injuries.
SWAT and police from Mishawaka, South Bend, St. Joseph County and Pokagon Tribal Police were on the scene throughout the incident.
