Lions Park Beach gets a facelift

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Summer is just around the corner and Lion’s Park Beach in St. Joseph, Michigan is undergoing some pretty big changes.

The city started this facelift project earlier this month.

There will soon be brand new restroom facilities and dressing rooms so that people can change out of their wet and sandy clothes.

The city is also paving a walk that will allow people in wheelchairs and people with strollers to enjoy a closer view of the water.

“The old structure that was here was old and outdated only had facilities for one or two people at a time and really the tourism here in the community required that we upgrade that and get a better facility here,” said Derek Perry, St. Joseph Director of Public Works.

The city says the $350,000 project is funded by a grant from the state of Michigan as well as local funds.  The goal is to have the project finished by Memorial Day.
