Local band holding Christmas Extravaganza for Big Brothers Big Sisters

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Local band Funk Harmony Park will be rockin' it out at The Brick Saturday night with their 9th annual Christmas Extravaganza. All proceeds go to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

This year's theme is tropical, so they plan to be decked out head-to-toe.

All the members of the band grew up in the South Bend area, and most have been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for years.

“Very few things can have an impact on a child’s life like a mentor, like someone, you can tell a kid everything in the world, but a mentor really has the ability to come into a kid’s life and really show the way to stay out of trouble, achieve your goals," said band member Nick Kovach.

In the past seven years, they raised $45,000 for the organization.

That money funds mentors for 45 children.

“It’s one of the charities locally that it has a direct impact on the community. It goes directly to the kids. And on an individual basis, you really get to see the change when you match up a big and little, it’s right there in front of you, so it’s kind of cool that way," said Nick.

Yeah, and a lot of our friends, too, have become bigs over the years, so it’s just something near and dear to our hearts, kind of like pineapples and coconuts," said T.J. Kanczuzewski, another band member.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday night at The Brick.

Tickets are $15 at the door, with all proceeds going to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
