Local BMX pros prepare for international trip
Two local BMX bikers are preparing to head over seas. And they say they're proud to represent the local skate park they practice in.
Out of the confines of Michiana's local skate park the kitchen, Colton Walker and Hannah Roberts are dishing out their own bike tricks far far away in France and Estonia for international competition.
140 riders. 30 countries. Hannah will be one of two females competing. She's also the youngest at 14.
"I'm definitely going to be nervous," said Hannah Roberts. "But I feel like it's going to be one of the greatest things that I've done so far."
Both her and Colton are benefactors of Kitchen founder Brett Benasiewicz dream; ramping up Michiana riders to face off on the international stage, like he did before suffering a head injury from a crash in 2012.
Now they hope to make Brett, and the south bend skate park he created, proud. A thank you for the pathways he paved for them.
"He's just a really special rider," Colton Walker. "I really looked up to him. Still do."
