Local business donating beds to children in need

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- This holiday season, a Benton Harbor business is donating ten mattresses to area children in need. Slumberland Furniture has been doing this for 22 years.

Slumberland's founder is active in many local charities.

The program is called Home for the Holidays. The store donates a full bed set to a select group of children in need.

They receive a mattress, box springs, sheets, pillows and blankets.

Many of the children who will receive a new bed have never even had one. Many sleep on the floor.

Tom Hardinger works at Slumberland Furniture and says he's very proud of the company.

"You can't but not feel good about being associated with an organization that has a community social conscience," said Hardinger.

To determine where the beds go, the business teams up with local nonprofit and community organizations to tap into which families have the most need. The beds will be delivered this Friday.
