SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The members of the local chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity-- in conjunction with Calvin D. Johnson Insurance Agency State Farm are sleeping out for the homeless all weekend long. The fifth annual Sleep Out 4 the Homeless event begins this afternoon.
President of the Nu Upsilon Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma, Calvin Johnson and First Vice President, Edward Thomas share details on the event and how the community can help donate.
The organization’s goal is to reach $10,000 and 1,914 pairs of socks, in addition to filling a bus with items for the homeless, including hats, gloves, scarves, coats, hooded sweatshirts, boots, socks, thermal socks, thermal underwear, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sweatpants and sweatshirts for both men and women. Donations are accepted in-person at 812 E. Jefferson Blvd. in South Bend or via Cash App at $SBsigmas
