SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A South Bend non-profit wants to get the community in on the life-changing services it’s providing to the city’s homeless population.

Broadway Christian Parish is located on Carroll Street in South Bend, near Ivy Tech’s campus. It’s right in the middle of a lower-income area, with a great need for services like this.

In 2022, the Parish served over 10,000 people for breakfast.

Over 1,200 showers were given and 408 people used laundry services there.

With the recent addition of a new washer and dryer, as well as new ADA compliant showers, the church is looking to double those numbers in the coming months.

Over 700 people were able to use the church’s address to have their mail delivered, something not many organizations offer. This makes it possible for them to get things like ID’s and birth certificates.

These numbers always seem to go up during the winter months, which we’re on the brink of right now.

The Parish could use community donations and volunteers to help services run smoothly this winter.

And with recent renovations and additions like a laundry room and ADA compliant showers, the Parish continues to take their services to the next level.

Officer Administrator, Brenda Emmerth says, “we’re always adding. If someone needs something, we do our best to try to find help for them, or to get that for them.”

And Broadway Christian Parish could use your help, too.

It’s currently in the market for a new van to use for food deliveries to and from food banks.

Ideally, they’d love to purchase a used box truck for the services and would need about $20,000 to do so.
