ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Environmental Center (EEC) organized a cleanup of the Elkhart River on Saturday.
Members of the community got together in teams and worked their way up the river to pick up trash and collect recyclables.
Jamison Czarnecki, who is a member of the EEC, says that it is rewarding to help improve the environment.
“This is an awesome opportunity for the community to come out and feel like they’re really making a difference first hand,” Czarnecki said, “and it’s an opportunity to pull out some trash and feel like you’re making a difference knowing that you’re helping clean the earth in a better way. It’s an awesome experience.”
Items that were recovered in the river include bikes, a shopping cart, and even a shotgun.
