The FDA announced earlier in October there is a shortage of the medication Adderall, used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy. Local pharmacists say it's best to call ahead to see if your prescription can be filled.
On October 12, the FDA announced a shortage of the immediate release formulation of amphetamine mixed salts, also known as Adderall.
“We have availability right now limited on all the strengths," Pharmacy owner Ray Kadi said. “The brand name I think is available for those people that have insurance that pay for the brand-name but the generics we're hitting batches of out of stock and then it will come back to the availability. When we order we’re getting limited order which means if you ask for five bottles, they send you two.”
They recommend you just fill a 30 day prescription as of right now to allow enough medication to go around.
Click here for more information about the shortage (look for Amphetamine Aspartate; Amphetamine Sulfate; Dextroamphetamine Saccharate; Dextroamphetamine Sulfate Tablets).
