Local police departments, railroad police hosting railroad trespass initiative

ST.JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Railroad patrols and local police departments will be looking for railroad trespassing violators during the Railroad Trespass Initiative event on Wednesday, June 19.

The initiative led by Norfolk Southern Railroad Police Departments and CN Railroad Police will be stepping up patrols to deter railroad trespassing throughout St. Joseph County.

“The main goal of this event is to prevent incidents and educate the public about the dangers that exist around railroad property,” said Jeffrey Price, Railroad Special Agent for CN. “Many people do not know how that railroad tracks are considered private property and walking down the railroad tracks or railroad property without authorized permission is not only dangerous but illegal.”

The Mishawaka Police Department, South Bend Police Department, Amtrak Police Department, St. Joseph County Police Department and the Osceola Police Department are working in collaboration.
