Community Build underway at Kathryn Park
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A local social worker was given a surprise award this morning for her work in the South Bend community.
Kayla Heckaman was presented with the Hero Award from Homes of Heroes for her efforts as a social worker.
Heckaman has been working with the National Youth Advocate Program in South Bend since 2017. She helps license and train individuals wanting to be foster parents.
“It’s something I always wanted to do since I was in eighth grade. I just knew I wanted to be a social worker and I wanted to help people,” she said. “I didn’t expect that to be something I would ever be recognized for, so it feels good.”
March is also Social Work Appreciation Month.
Congratulations, Kayla!
