Local volunteer opportunities could help with college costs
Paying for college is one of the biggest challenges facing students today. But by putting in a little time in the community, you could put a dent in your tuition.
Often times we think about student loans and scholarships first. But what many don't consider is volunteering their time with AmeriCorps.
By working with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Head Start, REAL Services and the YWCA, you can earn an AmeriCorps education award worth almost $6,000 dollars. Some other perks are a living allowance, health care, child care, and career training. But time is short.
According to AmeriCorps, there are only nine positions left this year. That means the window to apply is closing soon.
