Lottery officials: Could be weeks before winners of record jackpot come forward

Lottery officials said it could be days -- even weeks -- before the winners of the record Mega Millions jackpot come forward!

There are three winning tickets, each worth about $218 million!

They were purchased in Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland.

On Monday, the New York Post reported that the Maryland winner is a McDonald's employee who was part of an office pool, but claims his winning ticket was separate!

"I'm not sure of all the details. But that's exactly why we encourage our players to sign the back of their ticket, put it somewhere secure.  And then, make sure you get the right financial and legal advice," said Gary Grief, the Texas Mega Millions Lead Director.

If you didn't win, don't despair! There is another Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday night.

The jackpot is $12 million.
