Mad cow disease discovered in U.S. cow

VERNON, Calif. – A California dairy cow has been diagnosed with mad cow disease.

Officials say the sick cow was discovered at the Baker Commodities Facility and it has since been euthanized.

Eating contaminated meat from cattle with mad cow disease is thought to be the cause of a fatal brain disease in humans.

The USDA says the sick cow was never presented for slaughter and the disease cannot be transmitted through milk.
