Magnuson Grand Hotel in Chase tower closing June 13

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Magnuson Grand Hotel, inside the Chase tower in downtown South Bend, will close June 13th.



The hotel has been a downtown landmark since 1971, according to hotel management.

The building manager released the following statement:

The hotel is scheduled to close for extensive building and hotel renovations on June 13th, 2014.



We are in the due diligence process of interviewing and working with new Hotel Franchisors to determine the best fit for the market, the building and the Central Business District. We are pleased with the process thus far and see this as a very positive step. I cannot confirm or discuss a specific time frame for this process, nor the flag(s) that are under consideration. I can confirm that building has had years of deferred maintenance by previous ownership and that we have begun the long process of cleaning up the mess and repositioning the asset to its peak status. This process will take time but we embrace the challenges and look forward to the future and being a long term partner in downtown South Bend.
