South Bend Fire Department opts for standard state merit board
BENTON HARBOR, Mich – The Berrien County Road Department is undergoing projects to make their roads safer.
The Managing Director of the Berrien County Roads Department Jason Latham and his team manages almost 1,500 miles of roads and they are held to very strict standards
“Whenever we’re doing a project we’re making sure that we are meeting the standards” Latham said.
The State of Michigan says they’re making progress on making roads safer in-part through the “Toward Zero Deaths” initiative.
M-Dot reports that 466 people died in traffic accidents so far this year, which is 77 fewer than at this point last year.
Latham says he plans on making more improvements as long as it fits in the budget.
“For future projects there’s another safety project on territorial road in Benton Township, it’s just over a mile and that project has received federal funds to add shoulders and new pavement with new pavement markings” Latham said.
This is another step in fixing the streets and highways and making them safer during the summer construction season.
