Man accused of impregnating young girl pleads guilty

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A man accused of impregnating a child under the age of 14 in 2015 has pleaded guilty to one count of child molesting, according to court records.

Adam Tavernier was 31 years old when the victim woke up naked with Tavernier on top of her, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Several weeks later the victim went to the hospital for stomach pain and found out she was pregnant.

The court conditionally accepted Tavernier's guilty plea.

Tavernier will be sentenced February 6.

UPDATE: In February of 2020, Tavernier pleaded guilty to one count of child molesting as part of a plea agreement. His other nine counts of child molesting were dismissed. Tavernier was sentenced to 12 years at the Indiana Department of Correction.
