Man arrested after attacking two men, MSP trooper
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- A 47-year-old man was arrested after attacking two people and punching a state trooper, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to 28th Avenue and CR 653 for reports of a man who had attacked two other men.
Deputies learned the victims were on Almena Township property when they encountered a 47-year-old man near a shack in the woods.
While trying to speak with the man, the man punched the first victim in the face and knocked him to the ground, reports said.
The suspect continued to assault the first victim, so the second victim intervened and separated the suspect from the first victim.
The suspect then entered the shack, got an axe and swung the axe at the victim, reports said.
Both victims ran from the area and called 9-1-1.
When deputies arrived, they found the suspect, who was unarmed.
While trying to place the suspect under arrest, he began struggling and punched a Michigan State Police trooper who was assisting, deputies said.
The suspect was hit with a taser, but continued to resist.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody. After he was cleared by medical, he was taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
The suspect is facing preliminary charges of assault with a deadly weapon, resist and obstruct police and assaulting a police officer.
