Man arrested after crash with buggy on State Road 19

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after allegedly crashing into a buggy and then leaving the scene, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 4:26 p.m. on Friday, emergency crews were called to the 9600 block of North State Road 19 for a crash involving a pickup truck and a buggy.

Witnesses told dispatch that a black Nissan Titan left the scene after hitting the buggy, reports said.

Deputies discovered that the buggy was traveling south on the shoulder of the road when the southbound Titan allegedly struck the buggy from behind, according to reports.

The impact caused serious damage to the buggy.

A juvenile female was airlifted from the scene and remains in stable condition.

Other witnesses reported seeing the Titan driving erratically in southern Kosciusko County, reports said.

Law enforcement responded to the area and an officer with the Akron Police Department found the Titan near Athens in Fulton County.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kevin Swihart, was taken into custody.

Swihart is facing a felony-level charge for allegedly leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries and operating while intoxicated.
