ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A 37-year-old Elkhart man is facing a several felonies following allegations that he had child sex abuse material on his iPad.

The suspect, Joshua Polston, is charged with 10 counts of Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material with aggravating factor, all Level 5 Felonies.

Polston's initial court hearing was Wednesday, and his jury trial is scheduled for March 1, 2027.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 12, a witness came to the Elkhart Police Department to report she'd found evidence of child sex abuse material on an iPad owned by Polston.

Investigators learned one of the images found was of a 15-year-old girl. The image appeared to be edited with A.I. to make the girl appear nude. Police later learned the original image was taken from the girl's parents' Facebook account.

Police were told the search history on the iPad showed sites which hosted images of underage girls, sexual in nature.

Authorities soon obtained a search warrant for Polston's home for the iPad in question. Investigators executed the search on June 24 and retrieved the iPad. Other electronics were observed in the home at the time.

On June 24, Polston spoke with investigators at the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office. Detectives say Polston stated he edited the photo of the 15-year-old while thinking she was 17 or 18 years old. He said he used a website to make the nude image.

Polston allegedly admitted to searching for images of children ages 12-13 but had looked at kids as young as 9.

Investigators noted Polston apologized for doing so.

Polston allegedly stated he thought he had downloaded more than 10 CSAM images.

Polston informed detectives his phone, the initial iPad in question, and two other iPads are all linked to his iCloud account.

Police soon obtained a search warrant for all of Polston's electronics, which included his phone, iPads, and an HP laptop.

Upon downloading the HP laptop's content, investigators located 19,000 images of nude children who appeared to be under 16 years old. Investigators also noted there were duplicates of child porn videos on Polston's other devices.

Poston was arrested on Oct. 28.
