Man arrested on felonies regarding June 10 shooting, three others arrested

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police reports officers responded to a shots fired complaint on June 10 at 217 Loran Road. Officers discovered a dispute between two people had occurred and escalated into gunfire.
Police say the suspect had fired multiple rounds into the victim's vehicle in broad daylight.
The report states there were several witnesses.
Due to the severity and visibility of the crime, the case was assigned to MCPD’s Crime Suppression Unit.
A follow-up investigation began, and after interviewing multiple witnesses, detectives identified the suspect as 48-year-old Arthur Smith, of Michigan City.
On June 19, investigators learned Smith was preparing to flee the state.
CSU detectives coordinated with MCPD officers and SWAT to plan and execute a targeted operation, which resulted in the arrest of Smith.
The operation also resulted in the apprehension of three additional individuals, and the execution of a residential search warrant.
Smith is formally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, a Level 4 Felony, Intimidation (Using or Drawing a Deadly Weapon), a Level 5 Felony, Criminal Recklessness Committed with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 6 Felony, and Pointing a Firearm at Another Person, a Level 6 Felony.
Smith is held on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
His initial hearing is scheduled for June 24 in LaPorte County Superior Court #1.
The identities, warrant details, and charges for the three additional arrestees are still pending.
The investigation remains ongoing as CSU continues to follow up on this case.
