Man captured after leaving South Bend Community Re-Entry Center

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A man was captured in Gary on Wednesday morning after he left the South Bend Community Re-Entry Center, the Indiana Department of Correction announced.

Eric Johnson, 28, was discovered missing when the facility was doing a 2 a.m. count on Wednesday.

Johnson was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction in 2016 for aggravated battery in Lake County.

His expected release date was in April 2022.

The Indiana Department of Correction Parole Division and the Gary Police Department began searching for Johnson and found him at a relative’s house just after 9 a.m.

Johnson allegedly tried to escape police by jumping out of a window but was found shortly after, according to reports.

This investigation is ongoing.
