Man found dead in parking lot, deputies investigate allegations

Multiple police agencies are investigating after finding a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Howe gas station parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:55 p.m., deputies from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a Marathon gas station in regards to a suspicious person.

Deputies say the victim, 36-year-old Keith Banks of Detroit, handed an employee of the store a note with information suggesting someone may have harmed some of his family members.

According to authorities, Banks returned to his vehicle where he was later found deceased with a single gunshot wound to his head.

The investigation into the allegation made in Banks’ note revealed that no one had been harmed and the allegation is said to be false.

Deputies and multiple Michigan police agencies are still investigating this incident.
