CASS COUNTY, Mich. – An investigation into a Cass County shooting that occurred on Friday reveals that the 15-year-old son of James E. Hodges Jr. shot his father in self defense in addition to protecting another individual.
The juvenile is not being charged at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.

Original Story: One person in critical but stable condition after being shot in the abdomen.
Cass County Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Friday night at around 10 p.m. to the 62000 block of Cass Avenue in Vandalia, Michigan.
CCPD was dispatched to a call of a man who was shot and injured. Once officers arrived on the scene, first aid was immediately given to James E. Hodges Jr., 37 for a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Hodges was then transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for his injuries where he is in critical but stable condition.
After deputies carried out their investigation, it was determined that during a domestic altercation, Hodges was shot in the abdomen by a 15-year-old, whose name is being undisclosed due to his juvenile status.
At this time no arrests have been made.
This case remains under investigation.
