Man in critical condition following a stabbing in South Bend
After five shootings in the past four days, South Bend Police are investigating another act of violence in the city.
Police were dispatched to 321 McPherson St. just after 4 p.m. Sunday in response to a stabbing.
The victim, Alexander Cervantes, is currently in critical condition at Memorial Hospital. Cervantes is in his mid-twenties.
Police say Cervantes was stabbed in the leg, hitting his femoral artery.
The suspect is a relative, who drove Cervantes to the hospital. Officials say if he had waited a few more minutes, Cervantes may not have survived.
Police say they received multiple calls from relatives of the suspect and victim to report the incident.
The suspect is now in custody but police cannot yet release his name.
Because of his condition the victim has not yet been able to aid in the investigation. Police say they believe the suspect went to the home earlier in the day looking for Cervantes.
