Man in critical condition following arrest dies

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A man who was taken to the hospital in critical condition following his arrest Monday evening has died, the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit reported.

The Metro Homicide is Unit is investigating this ongoing incident.

At 8 p.m. on April 19, St. Joseph County Police Officers were called to fire station #25, located at Bittersweet and Anderson Roads in Granger, for reports of an unwanted person causing problems.

Officers made contacted with the individual and as officers investigated and after a brief struggle, police arrested the man for resisting law enforcement.

The man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail where he continued to struggle with officers. He then began to show signs of having a medical emergency and was taken to a local hospital.

The man remained in critical condition until he was pronounced dead on Wednesday evening.

An autopsy began today in Kalamazoo and will continue on Friday.
