Man rushed to hospital after landing pickup into trees

CLAY TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- Medics rushed a man to hospital after police say he crashed his pickup truck into a group of trees.

ABC57 News was first on the scene to the accident. It happened at the intersection of Adams and Ironwood in Clay Township around 2 a.m. Friday.

Officials say the red Dodge pickup truck flew off of an embankment and went head first into a group of trees.

Firefighters did have to extract the man from the truck and was rushed to Memorial Hospital on a stretcher at 2:40 a.m.

We spoke with the driver's wife who said her husband broke his ribs and had to get several stitches. She says her husband was unconscious for about an hour.

The Clay Township Fire Battalion Chief says he believes speed played a major role in the crash.
