Man taken into custody after standoff

CASS COUNTY, Mich. – According to Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, an investigation into an alleged shooting on Saturday at a residence on Mason St. in Mason Township turned into a standoff.

According Sheriff Behnke, there was a dispute between a husband and wife in which the man threatened the woman with a gun and fired off a shot inside the residence.

Deputies arrived on the scene, but the suspect would not cooperate and refused to leave the residence.

The Warrant Service Team assisted Cass County deputies in getting the suspect to surrender.

Cans of CS gas canisters were used during the standoff, and eventually the suspect was taken into custody and booked at the Cass County Jail.

Deputies say that they were advised of multiple firearms inside of the residence.
