Man wanted in Wisconsin leads La Porte County deputies on early morning chase

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a deputy was in the area of U.S. 20 and C.R. 600 West around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday when he observed a passenger vehicle with a license plate violation traveling west on U.S. 20.

Authorities say the vehicle then merged onto S.R. 212 and began traveling north.

The deputy then initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of a service station at the intersection of S.R. 212 and Tryon Road.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Hassan N. Malley of Beverly Shores, Ind. A database check also revealed Malley was wanted by Wisconsin authorities for Failure to Appear.

The report states Malley refused to exit his vehicle and sped off, leading to a pursuit.

The pursuit continued north on S.R. 212, east onto U.S. 12, and into Michigan, back west on U.S. 12 into Indiana, and then into Michigan City.

Authorities say that's when a successful deployment of tire deflation devices disabled one of the suspect vehicle's tires.

The pursuit then continued along Michigan Boulevard and onto westbound I-94, before the suspect vehicle finally stopped near the 37-mile marker on I-94.

Malley was taken into custody and then to the hospital for medical clearance.

Malley was medically cleared and taken to the La Porte County Jail on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony, Driving While Suspended, Prior Violation, a Class A Misdemeanor, Aggressive Driving, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Wanted – Hold for Wisconsin.
