Manufacturing growth in Michiana

ELKHART, Ind. -- Last night's State of the Union address focused heavily on the economy.  The President spoke about growth in manufacturing and in Elkhart County that accounts for about 50 percent of their workforce.

ABC57 talked to people at the "Work One Center" Wednesday and said there are more manufacturing jobs coming to the area.

Obama is partnering with U.S. businesses and the Departments of Energy and Defense to create three manufacturing hubs.

"The thought I had at the time is, Elkhart has to be one of those. I mean this is already a manufacturing hub and we're already exploring how to get involved in advanced manufacturing," said Kyle Hannon, Elkhart County Chamber of Commerce.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the number of manufacturing jobs in Elkhart is back to where it was in 2008.
