INDIANAPOLIS, Ind -- The Marian Knights boys basketball traveled to Indianapolis to compete in the Class 3A state finals against Beech Grove.
Coming into the matchup the Knights sat at 24-3, making a run to bring home the hardware to Michiana.
The matchup was one for the books as both teams broke the ice on their first state finals.
Marian got out to a great start knocking down shots from the three – while being led by seniors Richard Brooks and Kaleo Kakalia.
But after 32 minutes of play, the Knights lose 53-43 in their final game of the season.
Although it’s not the outcome the Knights imagined Coach Rob Berger says he’s still proud of his team.
"It hurts right now. It hurts right now and we came up I guess basically about 5 minutes short. I think it was tied with about 5 minutes to go and we came up a little bit short. It hurts but it doesn’t take away the season and the careers my two seniors here have had at Marian High School which took our program to a new level," said Marian boys basketball head coach Rob Berger.
