Marshall County Prosecutor determines officer-involved shooting was justified

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. - The Marshall County Prosecutor has determined deadly police shooting involving Mishawaka and St. Joseph County Police Officers on Christmas Eve was justified.

Following reports of a shooting, investigators say 54-year-old Johnny Lee Wood of Elkhart led officers on a chase ending just north of Bremen.

A Mishawaka and St. Joseph County Police Officer then tracked him down on foot.

Once police found him the prosecutor's office says police body cam footage shows Wood pointing a handgun at the officers leading to police opening fire, killing him.

In a written opinion, the prosecutor said the use of force was proper, justified, and will not lead to any criminal charges.
