Mayor Neese releases statement on Elkhart officers charged with battery
ELKHART, Ind.—On Sunday, Mayor Tim Neese released a statement concerning two Elkhart police officers charged with criminal battery.
“The City of Elkhart expects all police officers to perform their duties in a professional manner, and no form of excessive force will be tolerated within the Elkhart Police Department,” said Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese. “When such occurs, every effort will take place to determine if there has been abuse. Transparency and accountability are imperative, and the involvement of the Elkhart County Prosecutor, and subsequently the judiciary, are part of the process by which this incident will be reviewed.” -Mayor Tim Neese
Corporal Cory Newland and Corporal Joshua Titus were charged with battery after an internal investigation revealed they had used force to control a suspect.
Both officers were put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
