CHICAGO – The Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, is threatening citations and possible jail time for windy city residents that fail to abide by the stay-at-home orders. She is worried that the warmer weather is making people lax in social distancing.
“All the progress that we've made is because of social distancing and staying home. And if people use the nice weather as an excuse to retreat on all the restrictions and movement that we know are making a difference, we're gonna see another spike in cases and we're not gonna be able to get out of this anytime soon. That's what I'm worried about,” said Mayor Lightfoot.
On Saturday, the Chicago Police broke up multiple large gatherings, including a house party that had over 150 people.
According to the Mayor, compliance with the stay-at-home orders has gone down in one week from 82% to 77%, which could delay future gatherings.
The Mayor and the Chicago Police Department are now asking for people to submit anonymous tips about any large gatherings going on in the city.
