ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

Just around 11:38 a.m. on Sept. 7 officers responded to the 300 block of Pierre Moran Dr. for a shooting with injuries.

Once arriving on scene, they found a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside a home.

She was later identified as 21-year-old Jessica Martinez.

She was rendered first aid and transported to the hospital where Martinez died from her injuries.

A 17-year-old is currently under arrest on a preliminary charge of Reckless Homicide in connection with the investigation.

This is an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public.
