SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Pete Buttigieg, also known as "Mayor Pete," is one of six people being inducted into the South Bend Community Hall of Fame this October.

The South Bend Education Alliance states the Hall of Fame celebrates the accomplishments of inspiring men and women who have helped to make the community great.

"Mayor Pete" served as mayor of South Bend from 2012 to 2020 where he led an economic and civic resurgence before becoming a presidential candidate and going on to become the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

The other 2026 inductees include Darryl Buchanan, Richard Feldman, M.D., Steven Goldberg, Fran McDonald, DPT, and Lu Ella Morrow Webster.

The categories of accomplishments the selection committee considers include arts, athletics, business and industry, education, public/community/government service, and science and technology.

All eligible candidates must have resided or worked in South Bend for 10 or more years, made significant contributions to the South Bend community through service, have notable achievements at the local, state, national or international level, and continue to stay engaged and connected with the local community.

The induction will take place on Oct. 13 at The Century Center. The evening includes a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner, before the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
