SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend and Mayor Pete Buttigieg hosted the US Conference of Mayors Task Force on Automation this week.
Most of the discussion focused on how automation and artificial intelligence will impact the workforce.
That includes training people for new jobs and re-educating older workers.
Mayors from visiting cities said South Bend is leading the way in innovation.
"This has been a great one because there's so much happening in South Bend, not just the new programs, but how they're happening and how people on the ground are really making them come to life. It's not just inspiring, it's also showing us throughout the rest of the country how we can do better in our own communities," said Mayor Christopher Cabaldon of West Sacramento, California.
The mayors said they came away with a lot of new ideas about how to use technology in their own cities.
