The Michigan Department of Transportation is making new efforts to prevent deaths on the road.
On Monday, MDOT launched its efforts as part of the national “Towards Zero Deaths” initiative.
The goal is to educate drivers about road safety in the hopes that it will end traffic deaths eventually.
The TZD campaign started at a national strategic highway safety workshop in 2009. Since then multiple states have joined to improve safety through education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency response
Nationally, 35,000 people died on a U.S. Highway last year. In Michigan, 1,064 people died.
MDOT says that at least 90% of all fatal crashes involve driver behavior.
This video is meant to remind drivers of the role they play in eventually reaching the goal of zero deaths.
