Meijer's continued success with free tuition for all employees

The growing price of college tuition fees can keep people from pursuing their degree, but the "one stop shopping" center, Meijer, has a solution.

At Western Governor's University, an online school known for their low tuition costs, a student's business degree will cost $7,150-$7,510 for 12-months.

In contrast, a bachelor's in accounting at Purdue University Global is $66,780 per year.

For Meijer employees, on their date of hire, their college tuition is completely covered by the company, at select online universities including Western Governor's University and Purdue University Global.

Since the installment of Meijer's education program last year, the enrollment has more than doubled.

“We’re pleased to see so many team members taking advantage of these benefits not only because it enriches them but also because of the positive ripple effect it has on our communities," said Rick Keyes, President & CEO of Meijer.

Any employee can enroll in Meijer's education program with direct billing to Meijer, no reimbursement required.

The program includes a choice between over forty majors, ranging from marketing to computer science, as well as ten free hours of tutoring.

“The tuition reimbursement program made it possible for me to achieve some of the career goals I had made for myself years ago," said Thomas Kubasiak, who is a General Manager Merchandising Coordinator at Meijer's Battle Creek, Mich. location.

Kubasiak completed his bachelor's in business administration at Purdue University Global earlier this year.

Personally, I would not have gone back to school without it,” he said. “I would encourage my fellow team members to consider the educational assistance opportunities."

Participating schools Meijer's education program are Colorado State University Global, University of Maryland Global Campus, Walden University, Western Governor’s University and Purdue University Global.
