ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department hosted a memorial ceremony on Tuesday at Kardzhali Park to salute and honor local police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Tuesday’s ceremony served as a reminder to community members of the daily dangers the police encounter and the ultimate sacrifice that some officers have made.
“It’s simply to honor our fallen officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty for their partners on the police department, their community, their loved ones, all of us,” said Kris Seymoure, Elkhart Chief of Police.
To conclude National Police Week, the Elkhart Police Department’s K9 Unit will be hosting a 5k run/walk event on Saturday to support dogs and handlers.
