SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A local non-profit is trying to raise awareness about the importance of mental health with the community’s help.
Mental Health Awareness of Michiana is hosting a special event at Howard park Friday from 4-6 p.m.
The agenda consists of guest speakers, free mental health screenings, and even blood pressure checks which experts say can play a role in mental health-related illnesses. Marla Godette who is a mentor at mentoring moments says there’s no health without mental health.
Adding, it is all related and sometimes we don’t realize it.
So the overall goal is to let people who may be struggling know they’re not alone and educate them about the resources available across Michiana.
“Anybody, this is for the community. We want everyone to come out. This is a Mental Health Awareness Michiana Program. And, that’s Michiana. Elkhart, South Bend, Mishawaka, Even Niles, and Dowagiac. All the surrounding areas. This is for us. We’re putting it on for this Michiana community,” said Godette.
There is also going to be some family fun planned as well, like activities for kids, music, food trucks, raffles and more.
