Metro Homicide investigating stabbing at Mishawaka apartment complex

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating the stabbing of a man at a Mishawaka apartment complex.

The victim has been identified as Michael Merritt, his age has not been released.

There is some confusion about the exact location of the stabbing. Metro Homicide tells us that the stabbing happened at 3:37 a.m. at Pin Oak Apartment Complex. However, witnesses on the scene believe that the incident occured at McKinley Woods Apartments.

Merritt was stabbed in the stomach and found bleeding when emergency responders got on the scene. It appeared that his injuries were life-threatening.

Metro Homicide was called in and started its investigation.

Merritt was rushed to Memorial Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Merritt is recovering and listed in stable condition.

A person was arrested for aggravated Battery and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

The suspect has not been identified.

The case has been turned over to the prosecutor's office for the review of formal charges. Those charges are expected to come down Monday.
