NOW: Michiana dance studio holding benefit to help cancer patients

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.-- A local Michiana dance studio is holding a fundraising benefit on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. to raise funds to help cancer patients.

The ninth annual Dance for the Cure benefit will take place at Dan O’Day Dance studio in downtown Mishawaka. The owner, Dan O’Day said the fundraiser will raise money to help treat patients in Michiana.

“The last eight years we’ve donated 100 percent to the local cancer society,” O’Day said. “This year we are doing it again, but for the other cancer group that treats the people in this immediate area.”

The group O’Day is referring to is Riverbend Cancer Services, a local non-profit organization that has helped cancer patients across Michiana. O’Day said their goal is to help raise funds for the cancer society to help the people of Michiana.

There will be live music by local musician Darryl Buchanan and band and several dance routines. The choreographed dance demonstrations will include a mix of Latin and American ballroom dance moves.

"Cancer has been a part of their life in some way or another. Or they have a friend or family member. And it’s such a horrible thing to have to work with, we want to bring that help to this community as much as possible,” O’Day said.
