MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Michiana, along with 13 other locations across Indiana, are holding an annual Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sept. 15.
600 communities nationwide participate in supporting the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support, and research.
The association states: "Across the nation, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is full of flowers, each carried by someone committed to ending this disease. Because like flowers, our participants don't stop when something's in their way. They keep raising funds and awareness for a breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer's and all other dementia."
An average of 7 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease, the leading cause of death within the U. S. An estimated 11 million family members and friends provide care to individuals with Alzheimer's and other dementias. Indiana alone there are approximately 121,300 people living with the disease, with an additional 216,000 caregivers.
The walk will take place in Central Park in Mishawaka at 1:00 p.m. Sept. 15. Other Indiana locations, including Lake County and Columbus, will also be hosting the walk event on the same day.
Residents that are interested in supporting the fight against Alzheimer's can register for the event here on their website.
