While Notre Dame and high school football teams are playing for a chance at a championship, that's also the case for a local youth team.
Michiana Pop Warner will be playing for a state championship this weekend, something coach Aaron Austin could have only hoped for when he joined the organization.
"This is something we're all experiencing for the first time," he said. "We started a few years ago, and got a couple wins. Every year, we keep building and getting better. This is the first time we've had this kind of success, so it's awesome."
Michiana will play Michigan City in the title game on Sunday, and Austin said it's a testament to the hard work the kids have put in since they started the season.
"Our motto is to get better every day," said Austin. "From the first practice until now, every kid has gotten better. To see them on the first day until now, days before a state championship, it's mind-blowing. It's just a joy giving them the fundamental building-blocks of football. We're giving back to the kids and it's fun."
The game will be played in La Porte at 9 a.m.
