Sixth grade teacher Eric Johnson runs an organization entitled “Erasing Meanness” which helps give students tips and insight to erase the negative people and thoughts they encounter in their lives.
Johnson has developed lessons to help his students make connections between choices they make in the here-and-now and how they will be remembered in the future.
“We have a whiteboard, a 15 foot whiteboard with mean words that they were aware of, some words that they were not, but they were all mean. We spent part of that Friday erasing those mean words from our lives and replacing them with kindness,” says Johnson.
Johnson is hopeful this will help students recognize meanness in their own lives.
